An interesting look into Infinite Scrolling, the history behind it, and why it might not necessarily be a bad thing.

Isn’t it kind of obvious, scrolling is more convenient than clicking next page, especially when using a decent scroll wheel, middle click or the page down key… How is this a topic that requires a whole video? TL:DW?

The video talks about how it’s been hijacked by places like Insta and TikTok in order to keep your attention instead of leaving to do chores or what have you.

He talks about the history of the feature, its uses in modern tech, and why in some cases Google and Amazon used infinite scroll but went back to pagination and their reasons why.

I think the video itself is worth watching, but if you’d rather spend your time scrolling Lemmy, I guess I won’t stop you.

Lemmy isn’t quite active enough to scroll infinitely yet… 😅 (I usually reach a post I already saw yesterday)

I just shared the video because I find it interesting and I like the creator.

For example, he has this other video about the loss of the hover state because of mobile phones and this one about “Pie Menus” and why they never took off.

I was hoping that this newer video about endless scrolling would be interesting enough to funnel other Lemmites to his channel, but it certainly doesn’t look like it did, if 15 minutes is tl;dw worthy.

I was more just triggered by the video title as a question click bait tactic. i probably would be even less likely to watch it if their title was honest though since I’m already familiar with the topic, so fair play i guess.

Those other videos sound more interesting though, might give them a watch later, thanks 🙏
