  • I won’t win any fans with this. But this write up is abysmal. Anyone reading this can see the immensely aggressive slant.

    • Completely ignores the EU acting in the same fashion it portrays Russia, in their own interests. It repeatedly tries to frame one as defensive(Russia) and the other as interfering(“the West”/EU).

    • Euromaidan, the Maidan Uprising is portrayed as a far right operation. I’ve even heard people here refer to it as a color revolution, a go-to action to discredit revolution movements someone doesn’t like. Referring to it as a far right coup is wildly insane. The amount of people involved and the complete unity by many different people in Ukraine just blows that narrative away. By also framing it as a “far right coup” they’re glossing over a massively important other side of this movement.

    • The other side of the movement. This whole write up portrays Russia’s actions as defensive and innocent. HUGE red flag for anyone who can read history or understand human perception. It is the equivalent of two kids in a fight and one claiming their violence was self defense when it was not. What about before any of this that lead up to this? Russia camping it’s fleet in the black sea by Crimea and treating Ukraine as a proxy for influence of their own, something this write up claims the EU was trying to do. What about the Tuzla Island dispute? What about Russia’s war with Georgia for moving away from Russian influence? They had been building up an army far long before this NATO influence in Ukraine and expressed what they would do when a former Soviet Republic moves away from their influence. Fast forward and as soon as Yanukovych is removed from power, Russia invaded and took Crimea. Russia is showing immense aggression in the reason, framing themselves as defending themselves is completely a farce there’s no way to argue it any other way. It’s important to note also Yanukovych was not the only person in the government, under his presidency the Ukrainian government might’ve pushed towards some relationship with the EU but he is widely considered completely pro-Russia. It’s important to note Yanukovych now lives in Russia today. The Maidan Uprising started because Yanukovych refused to sign the EU association agreement.

    • Russia itself was funding far right, conservative and monarchist separatists in Ukraine. Dmitry Rogozin, Igor Girkin and Konstantin Malofeev, Viktor Medvedchuk. They’re all very easily googable names that play a huge role in all of this to understand how saying “Ukrainian far right nazis” is a fucking joke. While their ideologies are probably individually different, Viktor Medvedchuk is a Russian stooge Putin is his daughter’s godfather, Dmitry Rogozin is a far right ultra nationalist, Igor Girkin another far right ultranationalist who committed war crimes against Bosnians that you’d probably call ethnic cleansing, Konstantin Malofeev a financier who denies the ethnic existence of Ukrainians. So when Russia tries to say far right nazis, what the fuck are they talking about? What is a Nazi? What is the far right? These people are all deeply tied to Russia’s actions in Ukraine, they’re very clearly far right themselves and a few of them engaged directly in the financing of ethnic erasure or straight up went out and ethnically cleansed areas, that’s what a Nazi fucking does. Russian mercenary companies specifically have been seen engaging in ethnic cleansing operations in Mali, Wagner and the African Corps have both engaged in executions, torture, forced displacement and disproportionate killings of the Fulani people in Mali. So it’s completely invalid any time someone says “Ukrainian far right nazis” cause Russia is doing the same shit? Who the hell is Russia to claim they’re fighting nazis? Absolutely a joke of an argument.

But ALL OF THIS IS IRRELEVANT. The simple fact is Ukrainians united and overwhelming supported ousting Yanukovych because he was fighting against what the Ukrainian people wanted and attempted to subvert their democracy by refusing to sign a document that has overwhelming support and the response from Russia was instant aggression, which they displayed the same in Georgia and again in Crimea which belonged to Ukraine in the first place.

Not even to mention to blantant lies in that post. Both sides violated the ceasefire of the Misnk agreement, Russia also presents itself as a mediator in the conflict while directly supplying these separatist factions with weapons and financing.

I understand you didn’t write it, but it’s a joke of a write up and anyone with half a mind could read that and see the complete and abysmal effort to slant it all to make Russia appear innocent which is laughable when they’re playing the same imperialist game they’ve always played.

    Edit; Lemmy has trash formatting

  • Users in .ml are so silly.

Most of you I assume identify or support socialism right? Why Russia then? Because they once were a communist country? Because China is allied with them?

I see a lot of support for Palestine from .ml users but hate towards Ukraine. What’s the difference there? Why is one invasion acceptable and even supported but another not?

    • “Ukraine is Nazis!!1!1” A whole country is Nazis? Really? Russia isn’t also chock full of racism? Aren’t socialists supposed to be fighting for their fellow workers. Shouldn’t you be upset Russia is grinding an entire generation away over a special 3 day operation as he attempts to destroy Ukrainian proletariat?

It makes no fuckin sense. Russia is an oligarchy, Putin is a warlord. Why do y’all want to support that it’s pathetic.
