I really, really want to know who the first person to try putting it in perfume was, and more importantly, why? Does is smell good? I can’t imagine it does, so what was their thought process?

Hugo can handle images through its asset pipelines, so you should be able to just store them with your markdown. I agree it’s a little more friction than a blogging pkatform, but it does mean that you can just write your posts in your editor of choice and publish them with just a command, or if you’re feeling fancy, set up git to trigger publishing when you push.

Depending on exactly what features you actually need in term of things like commenting, you might want to look into a static site generator. Something like hugo woud probably do what you need in terms of translating the markdown into a blog. It has the advantage that you can them host the pages on a normal web server, rather than running a blogging platform, giving you a much lighter weight server footprint, and a much smaller attack surface too.

That’s odd, there’s a decent amount of it most places I look. Certainly not as much as reddit, but, quite frankly, I prefer the slower pace. It makes it feel more human and less like a soulless monstrosity designed entirely to capture my attention and sell it to the highest bidder.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind the reposts if you, and the others who’ve taken it upon themselves to repost without having been asked, put a bit of effort into the posts. By all means find interesting content on reddit and bring it here, but take a monent to say why you think it’s interesting or worthy of other’s time.

I think people might assume you’re a bot because your account is marked as a bot account. The constant reposting from reddit without adding any original thought just reinforces that appearance.
Specifically, you want to be up wind of the fire, and it the fire is creating that wind in an inclined tunnel that might involve heading down, through the fire. Funicular railways and stairwells could both be places that’s necessary.
